LOS ANGELES: Participant Media’s network Pivot has slated the documentary CodeGirl to air later this month, marking its premiere on U.S. TV screens.

CodeGirl will air on Pivot on February 24 at 7 p.m. The documentary follows teams of young women who compete in Technovation, an international competition that challenges female students to create life-changing mobile apps intended to help solve societal issues. The young ladies hail from all over the globe, including from rural areas in Nigeria and India, as well as urban areas in the U.S. and Brazil.

The program features Technovation 2015 finalists Team Charis, creators of Discard-ious, an Android app that facilitates proper waste disposal in Nigeria. Since mobile application development is a fast-growing industry worldwide that has been dominated by men, the documentary aims to encourage girls to enter the world of mobile technology.
