LOS GATOS: Netflix has acquired worldwide rights for Matt Bell’s feature-length documentary Eddie: Strongman from We Are Indee.

Eddie: Strongman follows Eddie Hall, a husband, father and truck mechanic who is also the U.K.’s Strongest Man and the first in history to deadlift 500 kg. Bell and his crew documented Hall over the course of two years during his quest to become the strongest man in the world. The title, which marks TV presenter Bell’s feature-length directorial debut, became available on Netflix this week.

“Eddie is such an extraordinary and complex character that his story appeals to a very wide and varied audience, and for fans of strength sports, this is the ideal motivational story,” said producer Tom Swanston. “Eddie not only has the potential to be crowned World’s Strongest Man, but also the strongest man who has ever existed.”

We Are Indee’s CEO, Hugh Edwards, added, “We are delighted to have Eddie: Strongman in our lineup and to have secured this worldwide SVOD deal with Netflix. Matt Bell has crafted an engaging and inspiring film, featuring appearances from Arnold Schwarzenegger and multiple World’s Strongest Man winners Bill Kazmeier, Geoff Capes, Brian Shaw and Zydrunas Savickas. The film transcends the sport of strongman and has proven to have strong crossover appeal, resonating well with male and female audiences alike.”
