LONDON: Icon Films has tapped award-winning producer Jonny Young as its head of specialist factual.

In his new role, Young is responsible for creating a slate of programming for the U.K. and international market that builds on Icon Films’ existing output. He will report to Icon Films’ creative director, Harry Marshall. Young joins the company’s senior management team, which, in addition to Harry Marshall, includes the managing director, Laura Marshall; the commercial director, Lucy Middelboe; the head of factual, Stephen McQuillan; and the director of production, Andie Clare.

Young is an award-winning producer with a track record of factual commissions and productions for a range of national and international broadcasters, including the BBC, Discovery, Channel 5 and Channel 4. Formerly a series producer with the BBC, specializing in documentaries and natural-history production, Young set up his own production company, Oblong Films, in 2010. Oblong Films’ production credits include The Naked Rambler (BBC One), Millionaire Boy Racers (Channel 4), Britain’s Youngest Undertaker (BBC Three) and Prom Queen Divas (Channel 5).

“Jonny’s experience and track record will strengthen Icon’s ability to develop and deliver distinctive programming across the breadth of factual genres,” said Harry Marshall, the creative director of Icon Films. “We’re very excited to have him on board complementing our already strong creative team.”

“It’s a great time to be joining Icon to build on the company’s fantastic reputation for producing popular and engaging television,” added Young.
