LONDON: October Films has been commissioned by Discovery Channel in the U.S. to produce Trailblazers, a new six-part survival show.

Trailblazers will look on as three expert survivalists lead separate teams of scientists through some of the most dangerous regions of the world in search of clues that could lead to scientific breakthroughs. The 6×60-minute program will take viewers to such locations as Papua New Guinea, Bolivia and Ecuador.

Trailblazers marks the third major U.S. commission for October Films over the past few months, with the other two being Mygrations for National Geographic Channel and Barbarians Rising for HISTORY.

Chris Muckle, the head of U.S. factual at October Films, commented: “I’m very proud that Discovery is backing us to deliver this ambitious new series; following some of the world’s bravest scientists, putting their lives on the line, to push back the frontiers of human knowledge. In the most dangerous places on Earth, the most amazing discoveries are waiting to be made. It’s the kind of bold and authentic TV that October is completely committed to.”

Matt Robins, the creative director at October Films, added: “Winning a series with Discovery is such an exciting landmark for October, and the culmination of an initiative to bring the hottest pitching and producing talent in factual television under our wing. Trailblazers illustrates just how well that brains trust is flourishing and bodes exceptionally well for the future as the company grows and adapts to an ever-shifting marketplace.”
