Bristow Global Media (BGM) is developing the docudrama Cleared for Chaos: 9/11, which tells the story of how air-traffic controllers in the small Canadian town of Gander in Newfoundland pulled off the impossible on September 11, 2001.

Cleared for Chaos: 9/11 is being developed for Bell Media’s Discovery Networks in Canada. It is set to begin shooting in Gander in September.

The 2×1-hour special is being distributed internationally by TCB Media Rights.

BGM President Julie Bristow said: “This is an extraordinary, never-before-told story of how a small group of reluctant heroes managed to get hundreds of international planes and thousands of passengers to safety as the chaos of 9/11 rained down on the world.”

Paul Heaney, CEO of TCB Media Rights, added: “The combination of the perils of air travel on this extraordinary day and the unbelievable stress on the air traffic controllers makes this a harrowing journey. This will make a compelling pilot and the precursor to a long-running series.”
