Icon Films and Natural History Film Unit Botswana have been commissioned to produce a documentary about the life of Africa’s Hippopotamus for BBC Two in the U.K. and PBS station WNET in the U.S.

The hour-long Hippos: A Life Aquatic will utilize specialist camera technology and filming techniques to reveal the underwater secrets of the world’s third largest land mammal. The doc was shot by Brad Bestelink and his team at Natural History Film Unit Botswana in the flood waters of Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

Hippos: A Life Aquatic is distributed outside the U.K. and U.S. by BBC Studios.

Icon Films’ managing director and co-founder, Laura Marshall, said: “BBC’s Natural World and WNET’s NATURE are great partners to bring this complex and incredibly difficult to film story to the screen. Brad’s technical and creative skills allow this intimate story to be told in exquisite detail.”
