LONDON: Atlantic Productions, in a co-production with Alucia Productions, is prepping the three-part landmark series Mission Galapagos for BBC One.

Mission Galapagos follows a team of international scientists embarking upon a journey of discovery across the islands of the Galapagos, aboard a high-tech research vessel. The series will make use of the latest science and technology, including portable x-ray machines and a LiDAR scanning sensor, with the newest filming techniques and cutting-edge graphics. Mission Galapagos will be distributed globally by BBC Worldwide. It will broadcast in the U.K. in the first quarter of 2017.

Craig Hunter, the commissioning editor at BBC, said: “Mission Galapagos takes the science expedition format to a new level. This is a unique opportunity to explore one of the world’s most exciting natural habitats, at a crucial time. When the animals and islands are facing an uncertain future… This series promises to be a gripping adventure full of scientific firsts—a genuine voyage of discovery.”

Anthony Geffen, series producer and CEO at Atlantic Productions, added: “We are thrilled to have gone to the Galapagos with such an extraordinary team of experts including presenter Liz Bonnin, and a leading scientific team, aboard a state-of-the-art research vessel and with the latest technology at our fingertips. Two hundred years after Darwin’s original voyage to these extraordinary islands, we still have so much more to learn from its remarkable wildlife.”
