National Geographic Global Networks has appointed former A+E Networks exec Christian Drobnyk as executive VP of programming strategy and acquisitions for National Geographic Channels.

In his new position, Drobnyk will manage the program scheduling strategy, planning and acquisitions for National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD and Nat Geo Mundo. He will oversee the design and execution of the network’s programming and acquisition strategy, and the coordination of global launches that maximize audience and performance across the Nat Geo portfolio. He will work out of New York under Courteney Monroe, the CEO of National Geographic Global Networks.

Previously, Drobnyk served as senior VP of programming strategy, acquisitions and co-pro for A+E Networks’ Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network. Before that, he was general manager of UKTV Entertainment Networks at BBC Worldwide. Earlier in his career, he led programming and development for Discovery’s TLC.

Monroe remarked: “With National Geographic’s continued ethos of creating broader, premium and upscale programming and attracting A-list talent to the network, both in front of and behind the camera, Christian’s addition to our executive team, with his extensive experience in both the U.S. and the U.K., is a natural fit to advance our programming and acquisitions strategy further. I am thrilled to have him lead our incredibly dynamic scheduling and acquisitions team as we continue creating and delivering premium entertainment with a purpose.”

Drobnyk added: “The iconic National Geographic brand has been going through an exciting evolution, and as a lifelong fan of the brand, I am thrilled to join Courteney and the team at National Geographic in taking the brand further and steering the premium content strategy into the future.”
