LAGOS: Pana TV, an African online TV service, has secured select streaming rights to the feature film Half of a Yellow Sun, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton and Anika Noni Rose.

The online service signed a deal with London-based distributor Soda Pictures, making Pana TV the first to stream the film exclusively on its platform in the U.K. It also secured non-exclusive rights to stream the movie in the U.S. with a limited shared pre-window. Half of a Yellow Sun, which tells the story of twin sisters from a wealthy Nigerian family who make very different life choices, will be released for VOD in the U.S. on June 29 and in the U.K. sometime in mid-August.

“This demonstrates that we seek out high-quality films for our viewers; expect to see more of such quality films and content on Pana TV this year,” said Mandy Roger, Pana TV’s head of content.

The Nigerian film was written and produced by playwright, novelist and screenwriter Biyi Bandele, adapted from the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
