JOHANNESBURG/LOS ANGELES: Organizers of the 2016 DISCOP Johannesburg market and co-production forum have revealed a record number of exhibit bookings.

DISCOP Johannesburg’s expanded floor plan will see approximately 250 global and regional sellers of feature films, television programming, adaptation rights and packaged channels. This year’s event is slated to take place at the Sandton Convention Center from November 2 to 4. Organizers have also announced that the U.S. will be honored as DISCOP Johannesburg’s Guest Country.

“Over 10,000 hours of prime programming at affordable prices will be offered across a floor plan that is now 100-percent sold out,” said Patrick Zuchowicki, founder of the DISCOP markets. “DISCOP Johannesburg is praised for the diverse, high-quality programming showcased, all suited to Africa’s multicultural audiences who are fast embracing digital entertainment, binge-watching and social media, and we’re expecting this to be another hugely successful edition for all participants.”

Reinforced meeting organization support will be available two months before the opening of DISCOP Johannesburg, which is expected to welcome 2,500-plus delegates driving the TV content business across sub-Saharan Africa. A parallel training and pitching program will help independent producers succeed with content development, production and distribution. The event’s first day will see industry leaders share their plans to boost Africa’s TV industry and turn it into a sustainable sector of activity promoting creativity, jobs and growth.

“We recognize that, when attending large events such as DISCOP Johannesburg, buyers and sellers are looking for seamless and relevant networking experiences,” added Rustam Kasymov, the head of buyers relations. “The 500-plus qualified television content buyers and commissioners operating in sub-Saharan Africa expected to attend will be guaranteed a highly effective transactional environment.”
