NEW YORK: Of all the new programs that were launched in Latin America last month, A lei do amor on Brazil’s TV Globo stirred up the most buzz in social media, according to The WIT.

The telenovela tells the story of a girl who gets pregnant by a young heir destined to become a powerful politician following in his father’s footsteps. The young man’s family succeeds in separating the couple and in concealing the existence of the child, but fate will reunite them several years later. Around 69,000 comments were made on Facebook and Twitter about the debut.

Also from Brazil, MasterChef Profissionais on Rede Band garnered some 54,000 tweets. MasterChef Profissionais is the local adaptation of the cookery contest MasterChef: The Professionals, a spin-off of the format MasterChef that pits professional chefs against each other.

Hacelo feliz, which debuted on Canal 13 in Argentina, is a musical entertainment show in which contestants compete in impersonating one of their favorite music stars: voice, body language, look, etc. A guest judge, different in each episode, assesses the performances in a booth, hidden from the candidates. The debut saw around 14,000 Facebook and Twitter comments.

There were also some 14,000 tweets about De férias com o ex – Brasil on MTV Brasil. The dating reality soap is a local adaptation of the format Ex on the Beach that aired in the U.K. on MTV. In the show, eight single men and women are taken on a luxury holiday and have their exes secretly invited to join them on the trip.

The debut of La apuesta on las estrellas in Mexico generated around 13,000 comments. It marks the first adaptation of the format My Next Me, a talent competition in which three stars of Spanish music act as mentors for young talents aged 16 to 23.

Minas al poder debuted on Chilevision in Chile, and around 10,000 tweets were sent about the series. The sketch show features six renowned female stand-up comedians who perform on stage in front of a public made of 150 women.

From Fox Latinoamérica in Colombia, 2091 is a fantasy series taking place in an endangered world where man has exhausted all available natural resources and must fight against robotization and reconnect with his own humanity to avoid the worst. Around 9,000 tweets on social media touched on the debut.

#DeboDecir on Argentina’s América TV saw some 8,000 social-media comments. The talk show set in a living room sees journalist/lawyer Luis Novaresio begin with a monologue about the news of the week, before receiving celebrities from all walks of life and closing the show with a musical act.

Las Vega’s, a series on Canal RCN in Colombia, had around 7,000 tweets. It is a local adaptation of the comedy telenovela format aired in Chile about a mother and her three daughters, who have to run the only property left by their husband and father: a “women’s” night club.

Rosario Tijeras premiered on Azteca 13 in Mexico, garnering around 6,000 social-media comments. Rosario Tijeras is a local adaptation of the Colombian telenovela of the same name (based on a 2006 feature movie), about the tragic destiny of a young woman working as a hired killer and prostitute at the service of a local gang.
