NEW YORK: Of all the new programs that were launched in Latin America in July, Tamanho família on Brazil’s TV Globo drew the most social-media buzz, according to The WIT.

The game show features teams made up of one celebrity and three family members who compete in funny challenges. Throughout the episode, the families share their life experiences. Around 26,200 tweets were sent about the #FamilyFriendly show on Facebook and Twitter, with many comments noting that the show is #Funny, #Touching and has a #CharmingHost.

Number two on the list of the most-buzzed-about new programs in LatAm is A Terra Prometida, also from Brazil. The Rede Record period telenovela focuses on Josué, the biblical character who succeeds Moses to lead the Hebrews to the Promised Land. It is a sequel of the telenovela Moses and the Ten Commandments that aired on the channel. There were some 19,500 tweets about the debut of the #EpicTelenovela, with mention of its #ImpeccableCinematography and giving #KudosToTheEvilCharacter.

Eo Eo Eo on TVN in Chile drew around 18,300 social-media comments. The variety show features nearly 100 artists in a festival broadcast live, mixing dance, humor and songs. Many on social media were buzzing about the #FeelGoodVibe of the #FamilyFriendly show, which had an #ImpressiveLineup and made the audience want to #SingAndDanceAlong.

From SBT in Brazil, A garota da moto is a drama series about a single young mother who moves from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo to live with her father, who owns a garage. She delivers goods on her bike to make ends meet but ends up risking her life since some packages are contraband. There were some 17,800 comments on social media about the premiere, with viewers #GluedToTheScreen watching the #BadassFemaleHeroine and noting the show’s #HighProductionValues.

Bala Loca on Chile’s Chilevision saw around 8,000 tweets. The thriller series is about a celebrity gossip journalist who changes his specialty after a serious accident leaves him in a wheelchair. Forced to totally rethink his life and career, he sets up an online medium named Guardia.cl. He’ll attract many admirers but also many enemies in the business world: his new mission is to denounce social injustices, conflicts of interest at the top… and investigate the suspicious death of a colleague. Social-media commenters thought that the #Thrilling #SuperProduction was like a #ChileanHouseofCards.

There were around 6,000 tweets sent about the premiere of Sin senos sí hay paraíso on Telemundo in the U.S. A sequel to the hit telenovela Sin tetas no hay paraíso and adapted from the book published in 2015 by Gustavo Bolívar, it tells the story of a “new Catalina,” daughter of Hilda (the mother of Catalina, who was the hero in the original telenovela) and Albeiro (who was the boyfriend of the original Catalina). There was a lot of buzz around the #MuchAnticipated debut, with some commenting that it was a #SpectacularPremiere and others lobbying to #BringBackTheOriginalCharacters.

Peso pesado on Chile’s Mega is a weight-loss reality competition charting the training and transformation of 24 morbidly obese individuals over several months. The premiere saw some 5,600 tweets about the #JawDroppingTransformations, with some in disbelief (#ItCantBeTrue) and others commenting about how they’re #NotSoKeenAboutSurgery.

Abandonados Asia, la ruta del dragón on Azteca 7 in Mexico had some 5,500 comments about its premiere. The adventure reality game show is a local adaptation of the format Peking Express. Social media was buzzing about the #ColorfulContestants and #FunFormat that has audiences #Hooked.

From Peru’s América TV, Mis tres Marías is a telenovela melodrama about a courageous father determined to get his three daughters back (named María Esperanza, María Soledad and María Paz), after having spent time in jail as the victim of a blatant injustice. There were around 3,900 tweets about the show and its #IntensePremiere, which had #TearsFlowing. Many comments also gave #KudosToTheCast of the #GreatProduction.

The top 10 list is capped off by Amor en juego, which debuted on Chilevision. Each week the reality dating show follows four couples who will live apart for seven days in a strategy game in which a single candidate must identify which of the four other alleged singles with whom s/he lives is truly footloose and fancy free, while the others are only pretending. If the candidate correctly identifies the real single, s/he and that person share the prize of 10 million pesos. Otherwise, it is the couple who has managed to mislead the candidate who wins. With around 3,800 tweets, social media thought the show was just #MoreOfTheSame. Some noted a #CastingFail or said they were #NotConvinced, while others thought it was a #GuiltyPleasure.
