SÃO PAULO: Rede Globo of Brazil has scooped up the rights to broadcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The deal covers the free-to-air and pay-TV broadcast rights, as well as mobile and Internet. Globo can share these with other broadcasters. In the past, Bandeirantes has participated as well. The agreement is for the 2018 Cup in Russia and the 2022 Cup in Qatar.

"The strength of Globo with its penetration all over the vast territory of Brazil guarantees that the tournament will be seen by the largest number of people possible and was a determining factor in our decision to renew our deal," said Jérôme Valcke, the secretary general of FIFA.

"For more than 20 years, FIFA and Globo have developed a successful partnership with significant results for both parties,"
commented Roberto Irineu Marinho, the president of Organizações Globo. "During this time, FIFA has made football into a sport with an enormous audience around the world and Globo is proud to have contributed to this. The most important thing for Globo is to allow our viewers to feel part of the event, as if they were at the stadium. For this reason, we’re very proud of the continuity of the partnership."
