Canal Sony has picked up the revival of American Idol in a deal with FremantleMedia International.
The new season of American Idol is part of Canal Sony’s Sigue la Música strategy for its prime-time programming block on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The block showcases talent competitions such as The Voice (U.S.), The X Factor (U.K.) and America’s Got Talent. American Idol will come to Canal Sony in March 2018.
“For more than 20 years, the industry has looked to Canal Sony for programming that presents the best and latest Hollywood productions, including the most popular series, comedies and musical competitions,” commented TC Schultz, the executive VP and managing director for Latin America and Brazil at Sony Pictures Television Networks. “The new season of American Idol underscores once more the enormous diversity and quality of our content, and our network’s role in bringing viewers the best new musical talent from the United States.”
“Following the previous success of American Idol, we are incredibly proud to be working with Canal Sony again to bring the series back to Latin American audiences,” commented Sheila Aguirre, the executive VP of content distribution and format sales for Latin America, the Caribbean, Hispanic U.S. at FremantleMedia International. “With the new star-studded judging panel, including musical sensations Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, and with Ryan Seacrest returning as host, the new series promises to be even more spectacular and iconic than ever.”
