DHX Media’s WildBrain has signed on to create an animated web series based on the Icelandic lifestyle brand Tulipop, and to launch and manage a global Tulipop YouTube channel.

The story-driven show will follow the residents of Tulipop, a wacky island filled with volcanoes, beaches, mushroom swamps and strawberry fields. The series for kids aged 7 and up will see 2.5-minute episodes debuting on a dedicated YouTube channel early this summer. It is co-written by Tobi Wilson (The Amazing World of Gumball) and is being developed with Red Kite Animation’s Ken Anderson.

“It has always been our ambition since launching the brand in 2010 to extend the world of Tulipop into animation, and we are delighted to be teaming up with WildBrain, Tobi and Red Kite to produce these wonderfully creative, funny and whimsical stories, which we hope will delight a whole new audience,” said Helga Arnadottir, the CEO of Tulipop, which was created by Signy Kolbeinsdottir.

John Robson, the managing director of WildBrain, added: “We’re thrilled to be launching the new Tulipop channel on the WildBrain network, and to be co-producing this exciting new animated series for YouTube. Tulipop is a fantastic world with original characters that kids are sure to love.”
