NEW YORK: Sprout is premiering The Furchester Hotel, featuring Cookie Monster and Elmo, this September as part of its Back to New programming initiative.

The Furchester Hotel features classic Sesame Street characters such as Elmo and Cookie Monster, as well as a cast of new characters. The show is set in an “almost” world-class hotel run by Funella Furchester, her husband Furgus Fuzz and their daughter Phoebe Furchester-Fuzz. The show premieres on Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network, on September 26.

The premiere week will feature appearances by Elmo and Cookie Monster on Sprout’s live morning show for preschoolers, Sunny Side Up. The Furchester Hotel will air weekdays at 9 a.m. and weekends at 11 a.m. starting September 26. Beginning the week of October 10, its weekend time slot will shift to 7 a.m. The Furchester Hotel is a co-production from Sesame Workshop and the BBC’s preschool channel CBeebies.

Sprout’s Back to New initiative will feature a new episode premiere every day for the month of September. It kicks off with new episodes of Maya the Bee, Jungle Bunch and Floogals on September 1 at 3 p.m. There will be a marathon of featured programs each Friday.

“September is filled with new beginnings and fresh starts, which is why Sprout is jumping into fall with Back to New,” said Amy Friedman, the senior VP of programming and development at Sprout. “It’s going to be a wildly fun month as we join Elmo and Cookie Monster at The Furchester Hotel and deliver new episodes of our fans’ favorites every day. We’re thrilled to be collaborating with our good friends at Sesame Workshop.”

“Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, is committed to helping kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder, and we couldn’t be more excited for The Furchester Hotel to join Sprout,” said Scott Chambers, the senior VP for North America media and licensing at Sesame Workshop. “Viewers will love problem-solving and exploring along with their favorite friends, Elmo and Cookie Monster, and meeting fun new characters.”
