LONDON/NEW YORK: Zodiak Kids Studios has been commissioned to produce the new animated series Kody Kapow for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network Sprout.

Kody Kapow centers on an aspiring martial arts-style superhero who is spending the summer with his extended family in a small village in China. The program, which reinforces Sprout’s commitment to original programming, is set to premiere on the network early next year. The global distribution rights will be managed by Zodiak Kids outside of the U.S. The show’s animation will be produced by Canada’s Arc Productions.

“Over the past year, Sprout has doubled the amount of original series on our air, and that number steadily increases with the upcoming launch of Kody Kapow,” said Frances Berwick, the president of lifestyle networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “We know our new content is resonating with our audience—our recent launch of Floogals (produced by Zodiak Kids Studios) attracted new viewers to the network at a 30 percent increase in its first six weeks. With these strong additions to our lineup, we continue to deliver exclusive programming that drives families to watch together and keeps them engaged and inspired.”

“We’ve landed the perfect partnership between Sprout, Arc Productions, and Zodiak Kids to produce a truly engaging series for children everywhere,” added Michael Carrington, the CEO of Zodiak Kids Studios. “The unique setting and playful characters in Kody Kapow offers endless possibilities for great adventures; girls and boys will love the sense of humour and enthusiasm of our hero Kody.”
