NEW YORK: NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network Sprout has launched its first original series of the year, Floogals, from Dan Good, the creator of the animated show Wissper.

Targeting children aged 2 to 6, Floogals follows the adventures of three inquisitive aliens, Captain Fleeker, First Officer Flo and Junior Boomer, as they explore Earth and the way humans live. The series uses CGI animation and live action to capture the peculiarities of life on Earth from the perspective of these pocket-sized aliens.

A sneak peek episode of Floogals aired on January 18 as Sprout’s highest rated premiere for women 18 to 49 and kids 2 to 5 since the debut of the channel’s original title Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave last year. The show later premiered on Sprout on January 23. To support its launch, Sprout partnered with Digital Kitchen and YouTube Channel FluffyJetToys to release the A Dinosaur, Unicorn and Robot Play in Space!! Ice Cream Dough Cake Pop Egg Surprise Alien Chica unboxing video featuring Captain Fleeker, First Officer Flo and Junior Boomer.

In addition, Sprout and sweetFrog premium frozen yogurt will encourage children to create a DIY “Floogals Fundae” featuring the characters from the show at stores nationwide in February and March, and an immersive Floogals experience will run at five discovery centers and museums across the country in April and May.

Floogals has a stunning cinematic quality combined with funny, smart storytelling that delights preschoolers and welcomes families,” said Sandy Wax, the president of Sprout. “Each episode is about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, which is at the core of Sprout’s overall brand identity.”

Based on an original concept from Good, Floogals is a co-production between Sprout and Zodiak Kids Studios’s U.K. production company The Foundation. The series was produced in conjunction with U.K. special-effects studio Jellyfish Pictures and Nevision Limited.
