Sony Creative Products has launched a month-long Pingu-themed event at a shopping mall in Japan in collaboration with licensee Mitsui Fudosan Retail Management.

LaLaport Fujimi transformed one of Japan’s largest shopping malls for the event, called Enjoy Shop-Pingu, which runs until February 25. Fans can participate in a range of competitions and meet Pingu the penguin. Sony Creative Products manages licensing in the Japanese market for Pingu.

The Enjoy Shop-Pingu event follows on the launch of the Japanese-made and produced computer-animated TV series Pingu in the City. A slew of in-store campaigns and competitions are also part of the event. These include collaborations with stores supplying Valentine’s gifts, fashion wear and chocolate desserts, a mall-wide search game called Find Pingu!!, a Pingu skating rink event, and a make-your-own-clay-Pingu class.  This marks the latest collaboration between Sony Creative Products and a major retail brand featuring Pingu.

Takeshi Nakamura, the global business group licensing manager at Sony Creative Products, said, “The long-term popularity of Pingu and the success of these brand-new adventures on NHK ETV have driven strong demand in the Japanese market for products and events related to the lovable penguin. This transformation of a major shopping mall has already proved popular and will, I am sure, continue to attract many more Pingu fans in the weeks to come.”
