Penguin Random House is working on storybooks and activity books based on SLR Productions’ animated detective comedy Lexi & Lottie targeted at Australian tweens.

Geared toward young viewers aged 6 to 9, Lexi & Lottie follows the adventures of 12-year-old identical twin detectives. The two storybooks (Here Kitty, Kitty and Art for Art’s Sake) and two activity books (Lexi & Lottie Detective Handbook and Ultimate Activity Book) were penned by Melanie Alexander, SLR’s script producer, who also wrote the TV scripts. The books will feature original artwork from the show created by SLR.

Lexi & Lottie currently airs on ELEVEN in Australia. It is due to debut next month on Germany’s Super RTL, as well as across Europe and in China.

Suzanne Ryan, SLR’s CEO and executive producer, said: “Our beloved trusty twin detectives Lexi and Lottie are the perfect fit for Penguin Random House’s tween publishing market. Their vibrant and energetic personalities, along with their detective adventures at Appleton Animal Park, translate incredibly well into storybook adventures and activity books. Here Kitty, Kitty and Art for Art’s Sake are both fun stories for tweens; the Detective Handbook features all of Lexi and Lottie’s top-secret detective tips and tricks; and the Ultimate Activity Book is filled to the brim with crime-solving, case-breaking, crook-catching activities.”

Holly Toohey, publisher of brands and partnerships at Penguin Random House, Young Readers, added: “Penguin Random House Australia are so excited to be launching the Lexi & Lottie book series. From the moment we heard SLR Productions’ pitch for the show we knew that these fun, action-packed episodes would translate perfectly into books for young readers. The series is hugely commercial, both in look and content, but also has strong educational themes such as animal welfare, problem-solving and social justice, which will ensure its longevity.”
