BES Animation has signed a new broadcast deal that will see Kitty is Not a Cat launch on TVNZ and NZ On Air’s new online media platform HEIHEI.

Created and produced by BES Animation, Kitty is Not a Cat centers on a young girl who lives among felines. HEIHEI snapped up the rights for the show’s first season, which will become available on the service in April 2018.

Bruce Kane, the founder of BES Animation Studio, commented: “We are extremely proud of Kitty is Not a Cat. We set out to create a show that reflected what local urban culture looked like for 6- to 10-year-olds, set to its own unique style and musicality. We believe we’ve created a show filled with colorful, funny and rich characters that will resonate with kids and parents alike. We are thrilled that the show has found a wonderful new broadcast home on HEIHEI, a digital platform we are very excited to be a part of and look forward to a successful partnership together.”

Amie Mills, TVNZ Children’s commissioner, added: “We are excited to add Kitty is Not a Cat to our HEIHEI slate of new local and international content at launch. HEIHEI is committed to telling quality stories that spark children’s creativity and curiosity. We think tamariki will delight in Kitty is Not a Cat and her adventurous, feline shenanigans.”
