Disney Channel Goes for Backstage

HALIFAX: Disney Channel is on board to air DHX Media’s original drama Backstage across its feeds in Europe, the Middle East, the Asia Pacific, Africa and the U.S.

The new 30×30-minute performing arts drama series has been licensed to Disney Channel in the U.S., the U.K., France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the Nordics, Benelux, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia and New Zealand. Backstage will premiere on Family Channel in Canada and on Disney Channel in the U.K. and U.S. this spring, with international rollout also scheduled for this year.

The series was filmed in Toronto and shot docudrama-style. It follows a group of talented teens experiencing the highs and lows of life at the prestigious Keaton School of the Arts.

Josh Scherba, the senior VP of distribution at DHX Media, said: “There has been significant international interest in Backstage. With Disney and Family Channel on board, we’re building strong international foundations for this new live-action series. We are confident that teens all over the globe will find the characters and story lines compelling viewing.”

Backstage was created and developed by Fresh TV in association with DHX Television. The series was filmed in Toronto.
