Brazil-based Birdo Studio and India’s Symbiosys Entertainment are co-producing 39 episodes of Oswaldo, marking a first-ever Brazilian-Indian co-production for an animated series.

Both pre- and post-production on the 39 episodes will be done at Birdo, while Symbiosys will handle the animation. Production will begin this month, with delivery scheduled for August 2019. Season one of Oswaldo premiered on Cartoon Network Brazil and TV Cultura this past October.

Oswaldo, a 13×11-minute animated comedy, is the first original series to come from Birdo. It is also the first original series from creator Pedro Eboli (Cupcake and Dino: General Services, Monster Pack). Aimed at kids aged 6 to 11, the series follows the misadventures of a school-aged penguin who was adopted and raised by human parents. Oswaldo faces his biggest challenge yet, surviving school.

Kid Glove, which is distributing the series internationally, has secured a pre-buy for the upcoming 39 episodes with Cartoon Network Latin America. There are additional deals in the works.

Luciana Eguti, executive producer and founder of Birdo, said, “Oswaldo is our first attempt to produce an original 11-minute animated series and our team at Birdo invested so much love and hard work on every detail. Seeing the series grow and reach a wider audience is the best reward we could have asked for, and we are grateful to Kid Glove and Symbiosys for their help on this journey.”

“When Pedro and Luciana first showed me the creative for this series, I knew it would work internationally and was determined to make this happen,” commented Brenda Wooding of Kid Glove.

Sumedha Saraogi, the director of international co-productions and distribution at Symbiosys Entertainment, added, “Oswaldo is a super-cute series and the team at Symbiosys look forward to this collaboration with Birdo Studio as the first-ever co-pro between India and Brazil! We are thrilled that Kid Glove asked us to join into this production.”
