BEIJING: Big Bad Boo Studios has inked a multiyear broadcast deal with CCTV’s children’s channel, CCTV-14, that will see the animated comedy series 1001 Nights begin airing in China.

1001 Nights tells the famed tales of Shahrzad, including Aladdin, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Sinbad and others. The show, aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 9, will debut on CCTV on Thursday, November 10. In addition to its linear channel, CCTV will offer 1001 Nights on the CCTV Kids livestream VOD service.

1001 Nights already airs in more than 80 territories around the globe, including on Disney Channel, Cartoon Network and Al Jazeera Children’s Channel. Big Bad Boo is negotiating with various L&M agents in Asia to expand the presence of the property, which is heading into its third season.

Aly Jetha, Big Bad Boo’s CEO, commented: “We’re thrilled to partner with CCTV and very excited to be featured on their children’s channel. Many of the original stories of 1001 Nights, like Aladdin, take place in China, so we are hoping that the local audience finds our stories relevant, fun and entertaining.”
