CANNES: BBC Worldwide Productions Nordics has secured its first commission to produce a local adaptation of The Big Painting Challenge for Sweden’s SVT.

The Big Painting Challenge is a competition that aims to find a country’s best amateur artist over the course of six weeks. The six-part Swedish version, locally titled Konstnärsdrömmen, will begin filming next month for broadcast on SVT in November 2016. It marks the first international license of the format that is commissioned from BBC Worldwide’s wholly owned production base.

Anders Fuchs, the head of content and operations at BBC Worldwide Productions Nordics, said: “We are eager to get started on our first commission as part of our aim to bring more premium content to the region. The Big Painting Challenge proved popular with U.K. viewers so we are delighted to bring this format to Sweden and look forward to seeing what Sweden’s best amateur artists have to offer.”

Christina Hill, the head of programs at SVT, added: “We are very happy and excited to present this great format to the Swedish audience together with Nordisk Film. We are currently scanning the country for artistic talent as well as spectacular locations. It will be colorful and inspiring—just like the British original!”
