HILVERSUM: Talpa has entered into a joint venture with the Chinese media company Zhejiang Tangde, part of which covers the rights to produce and broadcast seasons five through eight of The Voice of China.

The two companies will jointly develop and operate more than 200 variety TV shows, of which Talpa owns the copyright. The first production to be aired in China under the new deal will be Dance Dance Dance, a celebrity dance competition with augmented reality. This is in addition to Zhejiang Tangde signing a $60 million deal for The Voice and committing $50 million to the joint venture to be used for the development of local formats.

“I am delighted to announce our exciting new partnership with Zhejiang Tangde,” said John De Mol, founder of Talpa Media. “I firmly believe that we have found a great new business partner with whom we look to expand our business in Greater China and beyond.

“The Chinese television landscape has undergone a transformation over the past few years and China now has the capacity to produce big entertainment shows. We are thrilled to be bringing fresh ideas to the fantastic Chinese audience and by their massive support for The Voice of China.”

Pim Schmitz, CEO of Talpa Holding, added, “There are currently 65 local versions of The Voice airing in 180 countries and I am so proud to see the show that was created by John de Mol and his creative team in the Netherlands has also touched viewers’ hearts in China. We will work side by side with Zhejiang Tangde on the Talpa portfolio and look forward to collaborating to make The Voice brand even bigger and more successful than it is today.”
