CULVER CITY: The comedy Mad About You has been licensed by Telefe for a local version in Argentina titled Loco Por Vos (Crazy for You).

Production will begin early next month on 60 half-hour episodes. Loco Por Vos will follow a city-dwelling newlywed couple looking to sustain marital bliss despite many hurdles, including careers, families and friends. The series is based on the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning sitcom starring Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser that ran in the U.S. for seven seasons.

The Sony Pictures Television (SPT) deal follows on a recent launch of Mad About You in China. Known locally as Xin Hun Gong Yu (Wedding Apartment), the Chinese version has amassed 161 million views on AVOD platform Youku in its first three weeks. The comedy, which also airs on Dragon TV, continues to rank as the number one show in the time slot among all national satellite channels.

“As we have seen in China, Mad About You works especially well as a scripted format because it presents young married life in a funny and universally relatable way,” said Jeff Lerner, the executive VP of scripted development, international production for SPT. “We will be working very closely with Telefe to create stories that are true to the original in a way that is also authentic to audiences in Argentina.”
