LONDON: Comedy Central Latin America and TV Azteca are co-producing a LatAm adaptation of the hit show Lip Sync Battle.

The deal brings the total number of local versions of the series that are on air or confirmed to air to 12. Lip Sync Mexico will feature 13 hour-long episodes. It will be similar to the original U.S. version, but instead of two celebs per battle, three celebrities will take to the stage to perform in front of a live audience.

Lip Sync Mexico is currently in preproduction and is scheduled to air on Comedy Central Latin America and TV Azteca later this year. The format is part of the Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) catalogue.

Eduardo Lebrija, the senior VP and general manager of Viacom Mexico, Central America and Caribbean, said, “Lip Sync Mexico forms part of Comedy Central’s portfolio of new and original content being produced in Mexico for all of Latin America. The announcement of this co-production with TV Azteca marks the beginning of a project that will provide a lot of added value to this entertaining format.”

Federico Cuervo, the senior VP of entertainment brands for Comedy Central and Paramount Channel at VIMN Americas, added, “From the entire Comedy Central team, we’re certain Lip Sync Mexico will meet our viewers’ expectations, who will enjoy lip sync battles between well-known Latin American talent as they compete to take home the coveted belt.”
