BBC Three is expanding its commissioning remit, with an additional £10 million ($14 million) investment to use for programming at the online-only channel.
BBC Three will be on the lookout for ideas with “feel-good, entertaining propositions,” primarily aimed at young audiences.
Damian Kavanagh, controller of BBC Three, said: “This is an exciting creative moment for the channel and the production community as we are broadening the scope of our commissioning. We have received extra investment in recognition of the great work we have been doing since moving online and we have ambitious plans for the next stage of our journey.
“Our aim is to bring a new spirit to our content which celebrates young people and their passions by commissioning new, innovative, contemporary takes on fact-ent, formats and entertainment, which will unite and inspire our young audience.”
Charlotte Moore, director BBC content, added: “We are reinventing the BBC for a new generation and BBC Three’s role in that is more important than ever. I’m really proud of what Damian and the team have achieved over the last two years and this extra investment is a clear signal of our commitment to entertaining young audiences into the future.”
