New All-Female Production Company Launches in the U.K.

Double Yay Productions, a new all-female production company based in London, has formed following a Kickstarter campaign to fund its debut project.

Double Yay Productions writes, develops and produces female-led scripted comedy for linear and digital platforms. The team is comprised of Caroline Amer, producer and business director; Natalie Bray, producer and creative director; and Rebecca Tanwen Morgan, producer and operations director. The venture raised more than £16,000 and will release the seven-part series Nutritiously Nicola! this spring. The group came together after Bray took the decision to develop Nutritiously Nicola!, originally a stage show that she performed herself, into a full-length pilot to approach production companies with.

“We make comedy that’s not just for comedy’s sake,” commented Bray. “Our work features female leads who are kind of heroines—they may be messed up heroines, but they’re heroines you know. They’re a bit like us; a bit like you. It may be comedy about women, but it’s something that everyone will find funny. There is a serious undertone in our work—what we would call aggressive heart. Our work has a British sensibility with global appeal.”
