Actress Alexandra Rapaport and producer Birgitta Wännström have started their own production company, Bigster, in partnership with Calle Jansson, former channel director at Discovery Networks Sweden.

Bigster will develop and produce platform-agnostic content covering drama, comedy and entertainment. Bigster’s main focus will be strong stories with powerful characters. Its first production for the Swedish market is already underway. The decision to launch the new venture comes on the heels of the successful drama series Gåsmamman.

“I love acting and I will continue to be an independent actress, and keep working at the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre,” said Rapaport. I got a taste for co-producing when working with Gåsmamman, so from now on I will also be producing. As creative director at Bigster, I look forward to taking part of the whole process from idea to finished production.”

“I’ve been seated in the first row for years, watching consumer behaviors change in real time,” added Jansson. “Regardless of genre, the demands on creativity, packaging and financing are immense. Sweden and the Nordics has gone from being one of the big innovators in the industry to being trustworthy showrunners. We see great potential in this.”
