LONDON: Google has secured an agreement with HBO to make shows such as Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire available on its TV service, Google Play, in the U.K.

The digital marketplace will stock the first three seasons of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, the first six seasons of True Blood, seasons one and two of Girls and the first season of Veep. Google Play UK also gets shows from HBO's back catalogue, including The Pacific, Band of Brothers, The Wire and The Sopranos. Additional titles, including Banshee and season one of The Newsroom, will become available early next year.

The U.K. pact follows on a previous deal in the U.S. that saw HBO shows being added to the Google Play store. “We are delighted to bring our wide range of programming to Google Play in the U.K., and expand on our existing relationship in the U.S.,” said Colin Smith, the director of international digital distribution for HBO. “This is an exciting time for HBO in the digital space and we can’t wait to work with Google over the coming weeks and months to deliver all of our series and films to their platform, including a host of new and returning HBO shows throughout 2014.”
