UNIVERSAL CITY: Universal Cable Productions (UCP) and YouTube have announced the start of production on the pilot for the action thriller Impulse, based on the Jumper book series.

The hour-long piece is directed and executive produced by Hypnotic’s Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Live. Die. Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow). Based on the third novel in the Jumper series by Steven Gould, Impulse features a rebellious 16-year-old girl named Henry (Maddie Hasson) who has always felt different from her peers and has longed to escape from her seemingly quaint small town. Henry soon discovers she has the extraordinary ability to teleport.

Joining Hasson (Twisted, The Finder) as part of the cast are Sarah Desjardins (Van Helsing, Wayward Pines), Missi Pyle (Gone Girl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Enuka Okuma (How to Get Away with Murder, Rookie Blue, Slasher) and Craig Arnold (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Heartland).

Hypnotic’s David Bartis and Gene Klein, who also produce UCP’s hit series Suits, will executive produce along with Liman. The pilot was written by Jeffrey Lieber (Lost, NCIS: New Orleans), with revisions by Gary Spinelli (American Made).
