Turkey’s Mother Among Tokyo Drama Award Winners

The Turkish series Mother, an adaptation of a Nippon TV scripted format, was one of three foreign dramas recognized at the Tokyo Drama Awards.

The MEDYapim-MF Yapim production, which aired on Star TV in Turkey, won the Special Award, which is presented to excellent dramas produced outside Japan for better cultural understanding and business partnerships. The other two programs recognized in this category were Thailand’s Queen of Nagas (Nakee) and Vietnam’s Chiều ngang qua phố cũ.

The Grand Prix for drama series went to The Full-Time Wife Escapist (TBS Television). Also honored in the category, with awards of excellence, were Sanada Maru (NHK), Your Home is My Business! (Nippon TV), Quartet/Lovers & Liars (TBS Television), The Supporting Actors (TV Tokyo) and CRISIS Special Security Squad (Kansai TV).

For single drama, the Grand Prix was presented to Break Out (TV Tokyo), while excellence awards went to Cold Case file05 Lockheed Scandal (NHK), Inspector Zenigata (Nippon Television Network Corporation, WOWOW Inc., HJ Holdings) and A Man’s Fifth Year since the 3.11 Earthquake/Tsunami (TV Asahi Corporation).

For satellite and streamed drama, the winners were Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories (Netflix) and Yowamushi Pedal (SKY Perfect JSAT). Moribito Ⅱ: The Anguish of the Destroyers (NHK) and Cold Case Japan (WOWOW) won special awards.

Best performance by an actor went to Masato Sakai for Sanada Maru, while best performance by an actress went to Yui Aragaki for The Full-Time Wife Escapist. Supporting nods went to Masao Kusakari for Sanada Maru and Riisa Naka for I Love You Just a Little Bit. Sou Kuramoto won best screenplay for A Comfortable Home (Yasuraginosato), and Atsushi Nasuda was recognized as best producer for The Full-Time Wife Escapist. The winner for best director was Fuminori Kaneko for The Full-Time Wife Escapist, Quartet/Lovers & Liars and I Love You Just a Little Bit.
