The Young Pope to Air in Japan

CANNES: FremantleMedia International (FMI) has inked a deal with Kadokawa Corporation for all rights to the Paolo Sorrentino drama The Young Pope for platforms across Japan.

The Young Pope is a joint production of Sky, HBO and Canal+. The ten-part drama is produced by Wildside, in which FremantleMedia has a majority stake, and co-produced by Haut et Court TV.

Paul Ridley and Katsu Waza OBE both stated, “We’re delighted to be working with Kadokawa to take this phenomenal drama to broadcasters in Japan. The series is truly spectacular and unique, includes top on and off screen talent and has already received huge acclaim from critics worldwide.”

Mikiya Kurihashi, the general manager of home entertainment for Kadokawa, said, “We are extremely honoured to acquire all rights to this amazing drama series with an excellent creator, producers and cast from FremantleMedia International. We will definitely commit ourselves to do a very successful launch in Japan.”
