Sky Vision has picked up the distribution rights to The Flatey Enigma, a crime drama from Iceland’s Sagafilm and Reykjavik Films.

The ’70s-set four-part series is adapted from the book series by Viktor Arnar Ingolfsson and produced for RÚV as well as Scandi pubcasters DR, SVT, YLE and NRK.

“Sky Vision is known to take on ambitious and grand projects and the fact that Flateyjargáta [The Flatey Enigma] is among them proves that we have a strong series that the market is excited about and we are happy to bring this grasping story to the screen,” said Hilmar Sigurðsson, the CEO of Sagafilm.

Moreyba Bidessie, scripted acquisitions manager at Sky Vision, added, ”We’re very excited to have secured the distribution rights for this wonderful project. The Flatey Enigma is a compelling story that draws viewers into an estranged daughter who must exonerate herself—proving her innocence—and is forced to confront her deepest fears. We know international audiences love Nordic drama and I’m sure this will be a success for Sky Vision and Sagafilm.”

The series, which has secured financing from the Icelandic Film Fund and Creative Media, is being directed by Björn B. Björnsson, based on a script by Margrét Örnólfsdóttir. It focuses on a Nordic Studies professor who is accused of murder and must prove her innocence by solving a riddle in a medieval manuscript.
