LOS ANGELES: E! Entertainment has picked up a third season of the original drama series The Royals from Lionsgate and Universal Cable Productions.

The scripted series follows the lives of the members of a fictional royal family living in modern-day England. Season three will have a 10-episode run. The second season of the series, which stars Elizabeth Hurley, William Moseley, Alexandra Park, Jake Maskall, Tom Austen and Oliver Milburn, currently airs on E! The season finale is set for Sunday, January 17, at 10 p.m. The Royals is executive produced, written and directed by Mark Schwahn (One Tree Hill). It is also executive produced by Brian Robbins, Joe Davola (One Tree Hill, Smallville) and Shauna Phelan.

“We are incredibly proud of the success of The Royals,” remarked Jeff Olde, the executive VP of original programming and development at E! “The series has captured fans and brought them into a regal world of sexy, fun drama. We can’t wait to see what season three will bring and what surprises are still in store as we enter the second half of season two.”

“We are delighted by today’s pick-up announcement for season three of The Royals,” said Kevin Beggs, the chairman of Lionsgate Television Group. “The Royals reflects the kind of original, noisy and provocative series that is a Lionsgate signature. We look forward to an all-new season of palace intrigue and badly behaved royals with our partners at E! and Universal Cable Productions.”
