Laurence Fishburne (black-ish, The Matrix) is to star in the anthology drama series Rendlesham for Eleventh Hour Films (EHF) and Sony Pictures Television (SPT).

The eight-part paranormal series is inspired by the British-American UFO incident that took place at a U.S. air base close to the village of Rendlesham, Suffolk, in 1980. It will draw on reported events across dual timelines—from the time of the sightings in 1980 and looking ahead to 2020, the 40th anniversary. Fishburne plays the leading role of Tyrone, a retired American airman previously stationed at the infamous U.S. air base during the height of the Cold War. He will also executive produce.

Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy Productions and producing partner Helen Sugland will also executive produce, alongside Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green for EHF as well as Joe Ahearne (The Replacement, Doctor Who), who is writing and is set to direct the series.

“I’m beyond thrilled this phenomenal and iconic actor will be leading Rendlesham as Tyrone and facing down one of the most notorious UFO mysteries in history,” said Ahearne.
