Julia Ormond (Legends of the Fall, Sabrina) is attached to star in the new BBC One drama Gold Digger, which tells the story of a woman falling in love with a much younger man and the effect it has on her already damaged family.

The six-part drama marks the British TV debut for Ormond, who will star in the series as Julia Day. Gold Digger tells the story of a wealthy 60-year-old as she falls in love with Benjamin, a man 25 years her junior. But has she finally found the happiness she’s always deserved, or is Benjamin really the gold digger her family thinks he is?

Written and created by Marnie Dickens (Thirteen), Gold Digger is made by Mainstreet Pictures. Tim Bradley (Unforgotten, Death in Paradise) will produce and Vanessa Caswill (Little Women, Thirteen) will direct the first three episodes.

Dickens said: “I’m thrilled to have the hugely talented Julia Ormond bringing our heroine to life. I couldn’t be happier to be working with the BBC and Mainstreet on a drama that puts an older woman unequivocally at the heart of the action.”

Ormond added: “This is a fabulously written piece exploring family dynamics, and I feel extraordinarily grateful to have been cast in Gold Digger and to be working with Vanessa and Marnie.”

Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, said: “I’m delighted Julia Ormond will be starring in Gold Digger and at the center of Marnie’s explosive new series for BBC One. I can’t wait to see her take on this complex and fascinating character.”
