Eccho Rights has secured an agreement with Russian producers Amedia Production to distribute the new crime drama The Pretender.

The 12-part series, set after the Revolution of 1917, will air on Channel One in Russia later this year. Eccho Rights will present a first look at The Pretender for international buyers at MIPCOM.

The Pretender sees a provincial swindler find a golden opportunity for a big city heist, as a case of mistaken identity leads him into the heart of the Leningrad police force. But once inside, his talent for police work is irresistible, as he uses his criminal instincts to solve cases that were previously out of reach for the old guard.

The Pretender is a fantastic production that we were eager to represent as soon as we saw it,” said Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights. “The pacing, the look and the relationships will appeal to fans of crime series, period drama and even romance, where there is a lot of heart in this story about a man trying to do the right thing.”

“We are delighted to see this production coming to the international market,” added Nelly Yaralova, general producer of Amedia Production. “We have assembled a brilliant cast, razor-sharp script, and a fantastic art department to produce this unique story taking place at a turbulent time in Russia’s history.”
