CANNES: Dynamic Television is joining forces with ndF, Nordisk Film and TV2 to adapt the best-selling book franchise Dan Sommerdahl for TV.

Anna Grue’s famous Scandinavian crime novels are being packaged for TV as 5×90-minutes and 10×34-minutes. Dynamic Television handling worldwide distribution. Production is set to begin summer 2017 in Denmark, with The Bridge co-creator Nikolaj Scherfig attached as head writer.

“With the potential for high production value, Dan Sommerdhal is a perfect fit for Nordisk Film,” said Tomas Radoor of Nordisk Film. “We believe this collaboration will offer the best of the best from the Nordics.”

“I have been presented to a long list of adaptation proposals for Danish and Swedish crime series since I co-created and wrote The Bridge,” explained Scherfig. “But the Dan Sommerdahl series is the first one to give me something different to the classic Scandic Noir genre: a tight clean crime series reflecting on life outside urban cities understanding how modernity and social development affect life in the province.”

Matthias Walther, ndF’s CEO, added, “In addition to securing the rights to the novel series, we have also reached an agreement with the author to further expand the property and its characters beyond those twelve stories. This setup allows for multiple seasons giving us the opportunity to establish a long running format.”

“The success of serialized, darker crime shows out of Scandinavia in the last few years is undisputed. But there also is a huge demand right now for Scandinavian crime drama with a blue-sky procedural element,” said Jan Bennemann, the VP of co-productions and acquisitions at Dynamic. “Dan Sommerdahl expands upon this with a very likable main character and an overall lighter tone making it an ideal fit for a wider audience throughout the international marketplace.”
