Game of Thrones‘ Indira Varma and Fortitude‘s Luke Treadaway lead the cast of the upcoming Channel 4 drama The Truth.

The Truth, which is inspired by real-life crime cases, will also feature Neil Maskell (Humans, Kill List). It is written and directed by David Nath (The Watchman, The Murder Detectives), produced by Kate Cook (The Watchman, Glasgow Girls) and executive produced by Ben Chanan (Cyberbully, The Missing). The series marks Story Film’s first commission for Channel 4.

Nath said: ”Imagine if your partner was randomly accused of sexually abusing one of your children? It’s hard to think of a more toxic allegation yet it happens far more often than we realize. This film explores the consequences of an accusation and how it suddenly makes you question everything you thought about the person you live with.”

Nick Mirsky, Channel 4’s head of documentaries, said: “I am really excited about the fact that we are able to back Dave’s next step in the world of drama. The Watchman was an extraordinary achievement, and this promises to be an even more nuanced and sophisticated take on modern life.”

Story Films co-founder Peter Beard added: “We’re delighted that our first Story Films project is a Channel 4 drama. For us it’s about finding the right way to tell big and important stories, sometimes drama can get you to a place that documentary can’t.”
