Defiance Clinches Canadian Slot

TORONTO: Shaw Media has licensed the sci-fi series Defiance from NBCUniversal Television Canada to launch in spring 2013 on Showcase. 

The one-hour series airs in the U.S. on Syfy. A collaboration between Syfy and Trion Worlds has brought about the first-ever convergence of TV and Massive Multiplayer Online gaming, as an interconnected world and story lines will co-exist throughout the show and in the game. 

“With original hits such as this year’s number-one specialty series Continuum and blockbuster hit Lost Girl, Shaw Media has a proven track record of launching sci-fi genre scripted series successfully in the Canadian market. Defiance takes a groundbreaking approach to television and gaming, and we are excited to build on our success with this cutting-edge series,” said Barbara Williams, the senior VP of content at Shaw Media.
