SYDNEY: The signing of a new agreement sees zeebox become the first second-screen app in Australia to include key Foxtel channels in its lineup.

The service was launched just four months ago in Australia, with Network Ten as its founding shareholder. The app allows users to get more information on their favorite shows, connect with friends and celebs in social conversations about TV and makes it easy to buy products seen on television. The app is available as a free download through iTunes, Google Play and zeebox.com.

“The zeebox app has been a big hit in Australia, achieving over 350,000 downloads in just four months, and continues to win new fans every day,” said Jon Marquard, Network Ten’s COO. “The take-up of zeebox in this market has been much stronger than expected, in terms of both the number of apps downloaded and the level of engagement, that is, the time people are spending with zeebox.

“We are pleased to welcome Foxtel to the zeebox family and we are confident that the addition of the Foxtel channels will make zeebox an even more compelling proposition for every television viewer in Australia. This new zeebox-Foxtel partnership demonstrates zeebox is the market leader in the second-screen app space and is fast becoming the industry standard.”

Craig Blair, zeebox Australia’s CEO, added: “Through our partnership with Foxtel we are expanding the audience of our companion app and setting the standard for a universal social television platform that all broadcasters can use to engage directly with the fans of their shows.

“We are delighted that Foxtel is embracing our open industry model and look forward to announcing more channel partnership agreements in the coming months.”
