SINGAPORE: MediaCorp and TBS Television are jointly producing a weekly show that will highlight fashion trends in Tokyo, set to broadcast starting this fall on Channel U.

The two companies will also jointly conduct a feasibility study on television-based e-commerce opportunities in Singapore. The deal between MediaCorp and TBS builds on their existing partnership to collaborate on productions. The first of these co-production efforts was a single-episode, one-hour drama called Mooncake. The new fashion-based series will run every Thursday at 9 p.m. on Channel U starting October 18.

Lim Suat Jien, MediaCorp’s managing director for TV, said: “We developed good working relations with TBS on our first television drama co-production project last year and we are delighted to strengthen our collaboration with a weekly television show to target the trend-setter youths today. Beyond broadcasting, a strategic collaboration with TBS in the pursuit of business development would allow us to incorporate e-commerce trials in a television show that can be exported to the region.”

Shinji Takeda, the senior managing director of TBS Holdings, commented: “The key to success in new business ventures overseas is trust and collaboration with a local partner. We look forward to teaming up with MediaCorp to undertake various new challenges together.”
