BBC Worldwide Asia has signed a new agreement with Laosat that will see a number of its channels, including CBeebies, airing in Laos for the first time.

CBeebies is a multiplatform preschool brand for children aged 6 and under. The network features a combination of new and classic programming meant to encourage young viewers to learn through play. Titles slated for broadcast in Laos include the animated preschool series Hey Duggee and Sarah & Duck.

Also launching in Laos are BBC World News, an international news and current affairs brand featuring such shows as HARDtalk and Our World, and BBC Earth, a premium factual brand with programs like Blue Planet II, Fishing Impossible and Life Below Zero.

The channels, broadcast on Laosat DTH, will be available in the country’s 17 provinces, including Vientiane.

Myleeta Aga, the senior VP for South and Southeast Asia at BBC Worldwide, commented: “The pay-TV market is set for high growth in the next few years. With our partnership with Laosat DTH, we are very pleased to be part of that growth, bringing our genre-defining content to viewers there.”

“There is a strong demand for BBC content in Laos,” added Ding Yongbing, the general manager of Laosat. “We are confident that with the addition of BBC World News, BBC Earth and CBeebies to our lineup, we are now able to deliver the best British and international content to our viewers here.”
