BBC Studios and unifi TV have revealed that the BBC Player service is becoming available to 2 million more subscribers in Malaysia.

All unifi broadband subscribers as well as pre-unifi (Streamyx) subs will now have access to British docs, dramas, comedies, lifestyle and preschool titles that can be streamed and downloaded. Previously only offered to unifi TV’s Ultimate Pack subscribers, BBC Player will launch to more than 2 million of unifi’s broadband subs for free for 30 days beginning on September 18.

BBC Studios has also unveiled Got Science?, presented by Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander. The show will become available on BBC Player at the same time as its BBC Earth premiere on September 11 at 8:05 p.m. Other programs offered on BBC Player include Donal’s Asian Baking Adventure, Patrick Melrose, MasterChef UK, Blue Planet II and The Graham Norton Show.

Ryan Shiotani, the VP of content for Asia at BBC Studios, commented: “More and more, viewers are going to online platforms in search of interesting programs to watch. The Malaysian audience on BBC Player has steadily grown since the service launched in early 2017, signaling an increasing appetite for our content online. Dramas like Victoria, lifestyle programs like the award-winning The Great British Bake Off, our blue-chip natural-history programs like Blue Planet II, and the ever popular irreverent Top Gear, consistently top the charts as the most-watched programs by unifi’s Ultimate Pack subscribers, on both BBC Player and unifi TV. It is evident that BBC content resonates with Malaysians and their families, who are looking for high-quality, intelligent programs. We are glad that we are now able to offer these programs to a wider base of Malaysians.”

“The BBC brand is synonymous with quality and trust,” added Emily Wee, the VP of business and media operations at unifi TV. “These are the same traits our customers expect and demand from us. We are happy to be in collaboration with the BBC to meet the diverse needs of our customers by providing a compelling suite of BBC channels as well as access to top-rated British content via BBC Player.”
