Simpsons Set for MIPCOM Celebration

CANNES: The Simpsons‘ creator, Matt Groening, and executive producer Al Jean will be attending MIPCOM this October as part of the hit animated series’ 20th anniversary celebration.

In partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, the long-running FOX series’ international distributor, MIPCOM will play host to a series of events celebrating The Simpsons‘ global success. Groening will receive the inaugural MIPCOM Creative Icon Award during a gala dinner on October 7, where Jean will be the master of ceremonies. Both will also deliver a keynote on October 6 discussing the animated hit’s longevity and its embrace of digital platforms, and will participate in Fox’s international press conference for The Simpsons

“The irreverent humor of The Simpsons has traveled around the world," said Laurine Garaude, the acting director of Reed MIDEM’s television division. "It is a remarkable example of a show that for two decades has combined creative richness with huge commercial success without compromise. We are proud to be a part of the celebration of this truly global television phenomenon.”

“We are excited to have Matt and Al at MIPCOM, and having the show honored by Reed MIDEM as part of its 20th anniversary celebration is worthy recognition from an international marketplace where creativity and great fun are held in high esteem,” added Mark Kaner, the president of Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.
