Plex has launched its ad-supported on-demand service, delivering free streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows, in more than 200 countries.

Plex’s AVOD offering does not require a paid subscription or additional equipment. Users can access thousands of titles across a variety of genres, with content from the likes of MGM, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, Lionsgate and Legendary. It is currently supported on such platforms as Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, smart TVs, Android and iOS mobile platforms, Xbox, PlayStation, Amazon Fire TV and more.

Titles available at launch include Rain Man, starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise; the Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell classic Overboard; Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Terminator; and Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox. It promises “approximately one-third the number of ads” from what’s shown on traditional TV.

“Plex was born out of a passion for media and entertainment, and offering free ad-supported premium movies and TV shows is just the latest step in our mission to bring all your favorite content together in one place,” said Keith Valory, CEO of Plex. “What started more than a decade ago as a passion project to make accessing media on connected devices easier has evolved into the most comprehensive streaming platform in the industry, used by millions of people around the world.”
