NEW YORK: Spike and Nickelodeon are partnering with the team behind Lip Sync Battle, Casey Patterson Entertainment and Matador, to develop a kid-themed spin-off.

Spike has ordered the Lip Sync Battle Jr. special to air on the channel later this year. Sister network Nickelodeon will also broadcast the special. Lip Sync Battle Jr. will offer a fresh take on Spike’s original series and will feature new variety elements mixing music and comedy that are designed to let children’s talent shine through.

In a joint statement, executive producers Casey Patterson and Jay Peterson commented: “On the long list of wonderful surprises about Lip Sync Battle is our family co-viewing. Lip Sync Battle‘s multigenerational appeal is our favorite part of the show and the whole Lip Sync Battle family is very excited about developing a new music-based, comedy variety format to showcase how much our Lip Sync Battle kids rock! It’s all the fun of Lip Sync Battle, only smaller.”

The Lip Sync Battle Jr. special serves as a precursor to a possible series. In addition, sister Viacom brands are developing special editions of Lip Sync Battle events.
